Detecting Public Health

Describe what and where example is
This is a smoke detector located at Farmers Apartment Complex.
Describe how your choice is an example of public health
Smoke detectors are an example of public health because they help alert the public when there is an emergency due to excessive smoke, carbon monoxide, fire, or other harmful reasons to evacuate a building.
       Why you chose this example
We chose this example because we believe smoke detectors are very essential to the public. They are able to save lives by alerting individuals in a building when there might be danger. Fires and flames are the third leading cause of death for ages 1-14.  Smoke detectors can help protect property and reduce the number of unintentional injuries and deaths.
Why it is important that others consider this an example of public health
    • Others should know the importance about smoke detectors in order to protect themselves and their properties.  Some folks might think of this as an extra cost, but you should think of it as an investment that will save you millions of dollars of what you have struggled to build over the years only to go up in flames in a matter of minutes. Research says that 40-55% of deaths from home fires could be reduced with smoke-sensing devices, such as smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and sprinkler systems.
