What and Where:
This example is a sign that encourages people to wash their hands more frequently. This picture was taken at a restaurant. A restaurant is somewhere where a sign like this might actually improve public health because it can remind people to wash their hands before they eat food to prevent the spread of germs and disease.
How:
This is an example of public health because its overall goal is to prevent the spread of disease. By encouraging people to wash their hands before eating, it is contributing to the prevention of sickness in the public.
Why:
We chose this example because washing hands is a good preventative method against sicknesses, such as the flu. Every flu season, people are told to wash their hands frequently to work against the spread of the virus. Washing hands more frequently would lead to lower frequency of illnesses of all types.
Why it is important:
Many people do not wash their hands before eating or rarely wash their hands in general. When people eat food or even shake hands, hands can be a common way of spreading bacteria and illnesses. According to the CDC, keeping one's hands clean is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of infection and illness is any setting.

I am glad that someone chose the topic of washing hands. I am big on washing my hands. I hate the hand scanners at UGA. It is so nasty. It creates the opportunity for people to get sick. In the dinner halls there is hand sanitize, but I don't think that it helps. This may seem like a ramble, but I hope that it relates to the topic. GOOD topic!!! Excellent post!
