Omni Fitness Club

1) Description of what and where your example is: The Omni Club is a health and fitness club in Athens located on West Broad Street.
2) Description of how your choice is an example of public health:  The Omni Club is a gym in Athens that without a doubt promotes public health.  Public Health is the science of protecting and improving the health of communities through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and research for disease and injury prevention.  First and foremost, the point of having gyms is to protect and improve overall health.  Their number one goal is to promote a healthier lifestyle one step at a time.  Omni passes out informative brochures with membership information and health facts.  They also do a very good job of going to different events and group meetings to promote their many services.  They even have an email list you can get on that sends out healthy lifestyle tips once a week.  Once you join the gym you are immediately taking a huge step to a healthier lifestyle.  Omni provides extra services such as personal trainers and nutritionists for those who are really struggling with their health.  A personal trainer helps to prevent injuries and learn the best body specific workouts.  A nutritionist comes up with a custom diet plan for each individual so that they can cut back and increase certain parts of their diet to help them reach their target body weight.
3) Why you chose this exampleI chose this example because I have been a member of four different gyms, and of all of them, Omni is by far my favorite.  They do a great job of promoting their services, it is very inexpensive compared to other gyms, they have two locations in Athens, and they offer services outside of just the machinery.  I also love the fact that they send emails once a week with healthy lifestyle tips.  It shows that they really care about their member’s health and will take extra steps to help the customers take extra steps in improving their lifestyle.  They also offer package plans and monthly deals to help make the extra services more affordable in hopes that more people will use them!
4) Why it is important that others consider this example of public healthIt is so important that everyone sees any gym as an example of public health.  The purpose of a gym in general is to improve and create a healthy lifestyle.  They promote many health services and products such as vitamins and muscle repair shakes that also contribute to healthier lifestyles.  I have found, as a member of several gyms over the past 6 years, that just by going to the gym I became naturally inclined to make other healthy decisions, such as my eating habits.  The more I workout, the healthier my eating habits get.  Even if someone can not afford to join a gym they offer week and month long passes.  There are also several gyms available to people on welfare or any type of federal funding.  And even if joining a gym is still out of the picture, they still do such a good job of promoting how much exercise can improve someone’s health.  Just the promotion of a gym in general can influence someone to start working out at home or go running outside, because they see what exercising can do to improve someone’s health!
