For our third
entry, our example is a photograph of a poster that encourages customers within
the local CVS to get their Flu Shots while in the store.
This Flu Shot
initiative is an example of Public Health because the flu is an easily
transferrable virus and if one person gets it, there is a great possibility
that many people will get infected as well. Getting the flu shot would then
help prevent the spread of disease among the public and the posters within the
store help customers realize the importance of getting the vaccination and
promote better health within the community.
We chose this
example to show that it is very easy to prevent getting the flu and that
students can easily get a vaccination within the community without much hassle.
Also, we are in the Holiday Season and no one wants to be sick over the break
when they should be enjoying their time with family or out having a good time.
It is important
for others to realize this is an important aspect of Public Health because for
us personally as college students, we are always in close proximity of other
students. It wouldn’t take more than someone near you to have the flu and just
like that, you could have it soon after. Being that the flu is highly
contagious, the vaccinations would greatly decrease our risk of getting the
illness from our fellow classmates. Not only does it apply to college students,
but anyone in the working environment. It would be much more practical to go in
and take a preventative measure, getting the flu shot, than to be forced to
miss class and assignments or miss days at work because you are too sick to
make it. Getting the flu shot is a great way of easily preventing the spread of
illness among a community which is why we believe it is a great Public Health
initiative!
