I found the lecture on chapter seven particularly interesting. Physical activity for Life, in other words, fitness impact all areas of a persons individual life. It also has an interpersonal impact. Not only did the lecture address the issues of the benefits of being physically active but it also shows what is considered "fit" [the ability to respond to physical demands placed on one's body] and other things a person should consider when incorperating exercise into their life such as how when and where is it appropriate to be physically active. It shows how every part of your body is affected by becoming physically active, including (but not limited to) your brain, heart, liver, pancreas, muscles, bones, joints, kidneys, and thyroid; however the physical body is not the only thing affected. there are psychological and emotional benefits to being fit as well such as the lowered risk of depression.
It is a public health issue because the public should be aware of how much exercise they should be getting (at least 30 mins a day 5 days a week), how to incorporate it into their daily lives (a step at a time), examples of exercises appropriate for themselves. It is also a public health issue becuase of the health implications that come along with a lack of physical activity over a lifetime. Lastly since physically active programs are available to the general public from gym memberships to public tracks it is imperative that the public be aware of services open to them.
After learning about fitness and being physically active, I shared the information with my family and since change is a progressive action that is slowly changed and does not have to be drastic, we have began to incorporate exercise into our family routine, slowly but increasingly. One question that remains for me is if the affects of a sedentary lifestyle, or similar to sleep deprevation, has the damage been done and the only solution is to change the poor habit to a better life choice?
