Last week I made a stop at Walmart on Lexington Road. I did
not have my sticker with me, but I noticed the station for the wipes. They were
out! This is a big deal for the Athens community. These are not just wipes.
These wipes help prevent the spreading of germs and bacteria. It is almost Flu
season. You can spread the flu virus to
your hands by touching surfaces such as carts, handles, and money. Then when
you touch your hands to your nose, eyes, or mouth, the flu virus gets absorbed.
It is a fast process. Another bacteria caused infection is Pneumonia. It is
very common. Pneumonia tends to surface after having a cold or flu. As college
students, our lives can seem stressful. We have many obligations and concerns
that can affect our immune systems. We all know that weakened immune systems are the gateways to becoming sick. Everyone should be conscious and thankful
for the precautions that stores take. All of the infections caused by the
bacteria could become deadly. Everyone should view this as public health because this is how outbreaks happen. Though Walmart seemed to be lacking in the area,
they showed concern. Maybe next time they
will have wipes available.

I agree, this is an example of public health. Every time I go to the store I always take advantage of the wipes that are available and I would be truly upset if they were out when I arrived. It is very important to take the provided precautions to prevent illness and germs. You never know who has touched those carts and where their hands have been!

I love these things at Walmart! I'm not a super clean freak, but I'm also not naive to the fact that huge department store like Walmart breed an enormous amount of germs. From the carts to the groceries, these things come into contact with so many different hands/germs that they're breeding grounds for potential illnesses! I think it's very important to utilize public health outreaches such as these hand sanitizers in order to prevent germs!
