Reflection On sleep- Zane Coburn

Ive learned that sleep effects more than just your mood in your daily life. Sleep controls a lot of other bodily functions and allows us to recover and feel refreshed throughout the day and night. Without adequate sleep you have a higher risk of contracting a sickness along with many other viruses that your immune system can not fight unless you're asleep. Ive learned that sleep has many different cycles and it amazes me how little time we are truly dreaming throughout the night in REM. Sleep is the determining factor when it comes to your school work, your job and your energy levels when it comes to exercise. Throughout the lecture I've noticed that I don't get enough sleep and have a terrible cycle of sleep, which in turn makes my internal clock out of whack. Overall, I thought that the lecture on sleep was very important and necessary to our everyday lives, especially with crazy schedules where sleep may be hard to come by. It taught me, that in order to excel in my sport I need to get the right amount of sleep and get caught up before my internal clock can not be fixed for a long time.  I now understand how much time of my life is spent sleeping, which amazes me. Sleep is important to all factors of life and is a necessity to everyone, if you don't sleep well or enough you can easily effect the outcome of your days.

  1. Great post! I can relate to the sleep lecture as well. Before, I thought you could easily catch up on your sleep by just sleeping all hours of the day on the weekends to make up for lost time, but now I know that makes things worse! It's ironic how we are aware of how important sleep is to our bodies, but that is the first thing we let slide when trying to accomplish a task. Lack of sleep affects us more than we know, and after learning more about it, I have been more in tune with my body's reaction to lack of sleep!
