This is a flyer to promote an event called Bulldawg Brawl. It was found in my apartment complex off campus. Bulldawg Brawl is an example of public health because it benefits UGA Heroes, which seeks to improve the quality of life of children that are affected with HIV/AIDS. I chose this example because though it may seem like simply an event, this event ultimately helps with improving the lives of those children. It is important for people to view public health in many forms, not just the recycle bin outside of your house but also take interest in organizations and events that aim to reach a goal within public health.
In class we learned that public health involves both health promotion and disease prevention, which is what this event is being held to help with. This event will spread knowledge of the issue and prevention of it, as well as solutions for individuals who have HIV/AIDS. This topic of health promotion and disease prevention interests me because I know how events can impact others who are in need of better health. My aunt had ALS and going to walks to raise money to fund research for the disease. Also going to these walks allow many to join together who are dealing with similar issues, and being around others assists in promoting a healthier life. Considering my topic of interest is public health, it is vital to public health and the two factors involved with the topic. Public health can be found all over the world, but being able to recognize the multiple forms will allow for public health to spread even more that will improve quality of life everywhere. I wonder if there are other forms that I may not even be aware of and let slip away. This is why this campaign of defining what exactly is public health is a great step forward for many in understanding its full definition.
