Reflection Piece

The topic of most interest to me so far has been sleep. It is amazing how much sleep affects just about everything that you do. Everyone needs it, but not everyone gets enough of it all the time, especially us college students. We all enjoy going out two, three, maybe even four nights a week, but this is not beneficial to our health at all. Whether we're out late, or are up late studying, sleep depravation is taking a toll on our bodies. Then most of us try to "catch up" on sleep in a span of 1-2 days but that too is bad for our bodies. We must really focus on a sound sleep schedule where we get a solid 7-8 hours almost every night. I know that's almost impossible because we all like to have fun, and there are going to be some late nights, but if we could each get a few extra hours each week we would probably feel a lot healthier. Our bodies would feel more rejuvenated and we won't be at risk for many of the health issues that are linked with sleep depravation (metabolic and cardiovascular issues, metabolic issues leading to obesity).
Getting adequate amounts of sleep will help me not only in the classroom, but also on the baseball field. We have an extremely long season, and balancing class with games and practice is not the easiest thing in the world to do. At times, I run on just a few hours of sleep which is not beneficial for my body. I need to make sure that I can get as much sleep as possible so that i perform my best on the field and in the classroom.
