This Is Public Health
This Is Public Health

My picture is of a fire extinguisher that is placed inside my sorority house. I consider the house a property within the community because about 60 people live here at a time and new people move in and out each year. I consider this fire extinguisher an example of public health because it can help save many lives if a fire occurs. There are multiple ones placed throughout the house to ensure that everyone would be able to access one in the case of an emergency. The space between two must be a certain distance apart. They also have to be checked every 6 months to make sure nothing is wrong with them. There are many things the fire marshals require in order to keep residents safe.
I chose this specific example because it directly affects me in my everyday life. If there weren't any in this house I would be putting myself in danger and wouldn't know what to do if a fire were to start. Due to the fact that fire extinguishers are mandatory in every building, people have become familiar with their purpose and importance. Just knowing that there is a fire extinguisher lowers your risk for danger and allows for less stress. The public needs to know that if there is ever a fire that they have the opportunity to protect themselves and extinguish the fire.
