This is a poster promoting flu shots at a local CVS pharmacy. It is an example of public health because everyone is susceptible to the flu, and although flu shots aren't 100% effective, they greatly decrease your chances of coming down with the flu. Doctors recommend that people 6 months of age and older should get a flu shot annually. By offering 20% off to customers who get a flu shot, CVS is encouraging more people to get one. I chose this example because I see signs like this every day but don't really think about how sicknesses like the flu are public health issues that affect everyone. It is important for others to consider this a public health issue because the flu can cause serious complications, and getting an annual flu shot is the most effective way of preventing it. It's important to get a flu shot each year because the flu virus rapidly evolves, so last year's shot may not be effective in preventing this year's flu viruses.
Great example of public health! I think this is something that comes to many people's minds when they hear "public health". Ensuring that flu shots are affordable for the public to get them is important. Money is often a factor for people when faced with receiving different forms of public health, so it's good to see that CVS offered them for 20% off.
