- She lectured on sexual health, or how to be safe when engaging in sexual acts, how and what certain acts are, and she explained various parts of human anatomy and doctor procedures during yearly exams.
- I chose this topic because I liked the way she engaged her audience (us) and made the lecture fun. Some things I found interesting:
- Guys can be a carrier for cervical cancer
- Hundreds of types of HPV
- How many different types of birth control devices are out there (IUD's, rings, implants, pills, shots, etc.)
- This topic impacts me because it showed me information I didn't previously know, and now I have that knowledge to share with others incase they need questions asked. I also now have random trivia to share about sexual health with my friends and family.
- This topic is very important public health-wise because it deals with knowing about one's body but also about knowing the risks for transmitting sti's. It needs to be taught to everyone so that they know what happens when someone engages in a sexual act or decides to start being sexually active. And birth control is a topic many females aren't open about discussing, and that should change through these lectures.
- I don't have any questions about this topic because the lecturer did such a great job answering others' questions and explaining all facets of sexual health.
What is public health? Students in the UGA Health & Wellness class are here to help you find out! They have strategically identified examples in the Athens community that they feel represent public health in action. This blog is dedicated to explaining, understanding, and discussing what their interpretations of public health, as well as their reactions to learning about topics of health and wellness.

I am choosing to reflect on the Sexual Health lecture because I liked the way the lecturer engaged us.

I agree! She was really engaging and I learned a lot from her.
ReplyDeleteThis was also my favorite lecturer. I think it's so important that people become more open on the subject of sexual health because it is a topic that affects us all on some level. Whether it be pregnancies, STDs, or other health complications, learning about sexual health and the consequences of being unprepared is a topic that needs to be spread among our country; however, this will only happen if we become more able to talk about it freely.

I enjoyed this lecture as well! The way she immediately desensitized the subject made listening and participating much easier. Older methods of teaching sex ed were all about enforcing abstinence. But what about all of the kids that were out there having sex? I believe that knowing how to protect yourself from STIs and pregnancy is more important than teaching about ideals concerning abstinence.
