TIPH: Purified Water Fountains

For my This Is Public Health post, I took a picture of the water fountain that is in my sorority house. This water fountain is unique however in the fact that it provides purified drinking water as you would find in bottled water. This is an example of public health because it is extremely economically friendly in preventing waste and is used by a wide variety of individuals who live in my house. By using this water fountain, you are cutting down the cost of purchasing water bottles and the cost of recycling these bottles after use. Instead, you may use re-usable water bottles than can be purchased at store and washed whenever needed. I chose this example because it has personally helped me cut back on the amount of water bottles I consume weekly. Instead of buying Dasani water, I have purchased my own water bottle that I use with this particular water fountain on an everyday basis. It is important to be aware that water fountains are found in a variety of places, especially on campus, and can provide the same quality of water you would find in bottled water. By using water fountains instead of water bottles, you are helping the economy cut back on cost of their production as well as recycling of these bottles.

  1. This is a really good example of public health, and my TIPH was of a recycling bin so I agree that this helps cut the cost down of water bottles purchased and is economically friendly. I know that I use my water bottle every day instead of purchasing one from the vending machine or somewhere else. It really is effective in our society.
