Through her lecture, we were better able to understand the consequences, benefits, and information on sexual relationships. This topic is interesting to me, especially because I grew up in a private school where sexual education was strictly abstinence based. We were not provided with the information or tools that the guest speaker taught us about. Because of my schooling background, the topic she shared with us impacted my views on not only sexual health itself, but sexual education as well. After listening to the lecturer, I am now convinced that it is very important that schools teach children about sexual intercourse and the consequences that it brings along with it.
This topic is extremely important to public health because with the knowledge of sexual health children, teens, and adults can be more aware of how to protect themselves against STDs, pregnancies, and other complications. If more people are aware, then these negative aspects of society would lessen an enormous amount. The only remaining question that I have with this topic is: how many schools in the country are still using abstinence only education? Will the United States ever reach a time where sexual health education will be taught in all schools?
I agree that Katy was a great public speaker and she kept my attention the entire class. I can relate to you because I also grew up in a private school where sexual education was abstinence based and I completely agree that after her lecture I believe sexual education should be taught in schools. I was not as educated throughout high school as I feel I could have and should have been. I remember her saying that those who are educated usually have lower rates of STIs and unplanned pregnancy. I think you also made a great point in saying that the topic is important to public health because the knowledge can help protect the teens and adults participating in or thinking about participating in sexual intercourse. Lastly, as you said in your question, I hope that the United States eventually does reach a point where sexual education will be taught in schools because it could lead to a more aware population.

I also agree with Olivia. Katy was a great speaker and even though she was speaking on a topic that most people don't feel comfortable talking about she was able to engage the class and keep the topic light and comfortable for everyone with her humor. I also agree that this topic is very important to public health especially with the rate of unplanned pregnancy and the increasing number of STIs and forms of HPV. I believe that the way Katy approached the topic and the way she informed us was very beneficial and should be the way that sexual education is approached at an earlier age.
