Reflection on Stress
One of the topics we learned in class was stress and how we can deal with it healthily. I learned that stress is the physical, mental, and emotional response to any situation that requires adaptation. Not all stress is bad; some stress is good for us because sometimes it challenges and motivates us to do things. Prolonged stress and how we choose to respond to it can be detrimental to our health. Prolonged stress can contribute to chronic illness, negatively impact your metabolism & immunity, and potentially sabotage your education. To prevent this kind of thing from happening, some of the ways we can healthily cope with stress is to commit to healthy habits, reduce isolation, find balance in life, and prepare for stressors.
This topic interests me because stress can either negatively or positively impact your health. There are so many potential stressors such as academics, finances, and friends. It's how we choose to cope with it that defines how healthy you can be. And I think it's important to know what stress can do to the body and the mind. Stress impacts my life because I am college student who is trying to balance academics, work, and social life together. It's difficult sometimes to balance your time between those things. But I think if you prioritize your goals, manage your time, take care of yourself physically, and have some time to hang out with your friends & family, then it'll lessen your stress.
This topic is important to public health because stress affects each and every person, whether it's good or bad. Stress can stem from practically anything such as family, finances, health, the future, or a new environment. If everyone can learn how to healthily cope with stress, they can prevent or at least lessen some of the negative aspects of it. One of the remaining questions I have is what are some examples that can be perceived as good stress?

I agree with everything you mentioned, especially that we as college students have a lot of stressors to deal with since we are trying to balance a lot of things at once. I also think that it is important to balance these stressors, and examples on how to do that is to exercise and to maybe have a free day of no work or school, and to just relax for a while. Good stressors, in response to your question, would be stress from vigorous exercise in that it actually helps you in the long run even though you may put stress on your body while doing so. Having these good stressors can help us to have longer, healthier lives.

Stress is the number one problem for people especially in college. We have to priorotize our schedule and make time for relaxing. We have to know what causes these stressors and try to avoid them. Excerise and hanging out with friends always helps relief stress and get your mind off problems. Stress causes many health problems and we just have to balance our lives.
ReplyDeleteThis topic is so important because it is a subject that humanity will experience forever. A day will not go by that we do not experience stress. Knowing our stressors and attempting to reduce them can help, but in reality we will never be able to eliminate stress from our lives. I have had many bad run ins with stress and feel as if I am much better at handling it now than I was earlier in life. Perhaps colleges or high schools should have seminars on coping with stress. I know that if I had those in my early college years, I could have saved myself a lot of trouble and probably would have much less grey hair than I do currently.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this topic. Stress is definitely something that we all deal with and have to face. There really isn't any avoiding it. I found the science behind it, like the cortisol levels, interesting. Stress can be a great thing because it motivates us, but if we are constantly at high stress levels it can be very harmful. Maybe it would be beneficial to the public's health to start educating people better and earlier. Stress sometimes gets pushed under the rug and isn't considered a big deal because we all have to deal with it, but people need to understand the risks of chronic stress.
ReplyDeleteStress is big part of college, and with us students being so vulnerable to add more stress into our lives, its good to know how to know how to cope with it.We need to learn about how to deal with stress in ways that are healthy and if it isnt dealt with correctly, then it can be very detrimental to our health for the rest of our lives. It can effect us both mentally and physically and stress is very important to deal with in its early stages before it gets out of control.
