Reflection Piece
I am reflecting on the presentation by Tara Misra on how to have a healthy relationship in college. I thought her presentation was very interesting and she included some helpful tips for people who are in relationships. One tip that I thought was very helpful was for people to allow 30 minutes for an argument, and if it lasts longer you should agree to talk about it later. When people fight for a long period of time, they usually end up saying things they regret or getting overly upset. I also really enjoyed taking the quiz about the five love languages. I had my boyfriend take the quiz on his own and we discovered that we have similar love languages. Tara's presentation has impacted me because it caused me to appreciate the healthy relationship that my boyfriend and I have, since a lot of people are not so lucky. Most people, at one time or another, will be in some kind of a relationship. The issue of being in a healthy relationship can definitely be considered public health because it applies to everyone. It's important for everyone to know how to avoid abuse in their relationships and to know what they deserve when it comes to dating. A remaining question I have regarding this issue is: What can I say to my friends who are in unhealthy relationships, but disregard how the person treats them because they'd rather be unhappy than single?
