Garbage Cans are Public Health!
I chose to represent Public Health with this trash can by the sidewalk. The trash can is located at the bus stop on Alps Rd, right outside of Clarke Middle School. Although simple, this garbage disposal is a fine example of public health. It helps provide a clean living environment for Athens residents. When there is not a convenient place to throw away trash, some people choose to just toss it on the ground. Not only does that tarnish our area visually, which is good for your mental health, but it can also bring varmint and stray animals. With those animals come higher risks of car accidents (from them running into the street), allergic reactions (from students allergies to cats, fur, etc.), along with risk of other diseases the animals might have brought from their previous home. I chose this example because this form of public health is so minimal and unappreciated, yet makes such a large impact. All these consequences would come from a trash can, that usually goes unnoticed, no longer being there. It is really important that others realize that this is indeed a form of Public Health because they should know that it should be utilized. However, the area in front of this school should not be the only place trash is maintained. The government provides garbage disposals and trash pickups on almost every street. This is to keep the community pretty and clean, reducing the risk of stray animals, germs, and diseases gathering. Encourage others to keep the area clean, throw away trash. It will make for a happier, healthier living space.

I like your representation of public health because it's the one that's represented less! Not too many people chose garbage cans (or even garbage in general) even though it is probably the most important form of public health available today.
