Reflection on Drugs and Alcohol 101

Reflection on Drugs and Alcohol 101

The topic that has interested me the most thus far is drugs and alcohol.  I really enjoyed hearing Betria Stinson give the presentation called Drugs and Alcohol 101.  We learned consequences of high risk drinking and the different types of drugs that are harmful to our bodies along with much more.  This topic interested me because I fell as though this is the time in our lives when we are exposed to drugs and alcohol the most.  I was very interested in the contents of a “standard drink.”  Most people would be surprised to find out this information.
This topic impacts my life because, according to the speech, as a college student involved in Greek life, I am among the highest risk groups.  Also, the topic of alcohol is so important to me because a member of my family is a recovered alcoholic.  Therefore, this issue is very important for me to be aware of.  Prescription drug abuse is a very pressing issue that occurs near us everyday, and the people involved do not know how harmful it can be to their body and mind.
This topic is extremely important to public health because alcohol and drug use can be very dangerous if abused.  It could easily effect a whole population if not taken under control.
I would like to know more about the chemical effects that drugs and alcohol have on your body and brain.  I am interested in this aspect because of the fact that I am a science major.
