TIPH blog picture- Lauren Kelly

This is the Bigger Vision homeless shelter located off of North Avenue. This homeless shelter takes people off the streets and provides them with a bed and a warm meal every night. Bigger Vision is a great representation of Public Health because it positively impacts our community in many ways. They invite all homeless people with welcome arms to stay here and really help out families in need.  I chose this as my example of public health because I have volunteered here and I have seen from a firsthand perspective its importance in Athens.

  1. I agree that this blog is an example of public health because without these shelters these people would be without a place to shower and sleep. This publicly known shelter also raises awareness to the public showing that there are people out there living in these conditions.

  2. I thought this was a great example of public health. It grabbed my attention more so than the other posts, because normally when I think about public health, my mind leans toward examples that are more obvious that they involve public health. So it was nice to see something different. Homeless shelters are definitely a form of public health by promoting health and providing any assistance that they can to help homeless people who may not have the needs or knowledge to obtain and understand public health.
