Sexual Health

Yesterday in class we learned about sexual health. This topic interests me because sex is all around us and it is important to have at least a basic knowledge about it. The topic of sexual health impacts the lives of everyone, even if they are not currently engaging in sexual relations. The social aspects of sex are everywhere and pressure people in all different social circles because it is a natural part of life. It is present in many religious practices, though not always in a positive light, oftentimes making it seem very taboo. Proper discussion and informative conversations are very critical for families to have in order to ensure an understanding of the realm of sex. Children who are uninformed or misinformed are at a much greater risk of contracting a disease or becoming pregnant. Sexual health is very closely tied to public health because, again, it impacts everyone. If someone has AIDS and does not disclose it to their partners, it becomes a very serious public health issue. Not to mention a moral, and criminal issue. STIs and STDs are a large public health issue in the United States beause people do not practice safe sex habits. I do not have any remaining questions because I have been well informed about sexual health growing up and this lecture seemed to include just about everything we needed to know. If I had to choose a question it would be: What is the best way to go about asking a sexual partner about their history with STI's, if any? Or: How to you choose a birth control pill that will respond well with your body?

  1. I thought this was a great lesson that was taught. I also inquire the same questions that you do

  2. I think you did a great job of reflecting on the lecture on sexual health. I think you have great questions too. Another question we could ask is "How can we more extensively educate younger members of society without going too far, or making them feel as though sexual health is a taboo topic?"
